A new Texas A&M study is the first to demonstrate that cats can catch the coronavirus.
Dr. Italo Zecca says that it doesn't mean you have to get rid of your cat.
He says cats that have tested positive, two of them in Brazos County, showing symptoms such as a stuffy nose, but he adds that the virus is not deadly for felines like it can be for humans.
He is testing pets in households with humans who have confirmed cases, Texas A&M pioneering the research in the field.
Last week in Louisiana a dog tested positive. In May the Bronx Zoo reporter lions and tigers had tested positive after exposure to an asymptomatic zookeeper.
