If you could choose your problems, this one facing Texas employers, is one you'd pick. Not only is unemployment at a record low, Texas employers can't fill all of the jobs they have.
Texas economist Dr. Ray Perryman says it shows the economy is booming.
"It's a good problem to have and you have to celebrate how well we're doing economically."
But the economy can't grow if Texas companies can't find more skilled workers.
"It's of course good to have full employment and have the lowest unemployment rate ever recorded, you have to say that's good news. The difficulty with it is that means we have a real shortage of workers in Texas."
Dr. Perryman says in the past we'd hire workers from other states, but things are so good, they've got nearly full employment, too.
"Construction has had a very definite shortage for an extended period of time, a number of the tech sectors are hurting, there's a lot of openings in health care, even education -- there's a lot of places that don't have enough school teachers -- agricultural workers. It's really cutting across just about every field."
Dr. Perryman says, unfortunately, the invasion of Central Americans doesn't help because they're not trained to do most of the jobs. Unemployment is so low nationally, Texas is having trouble attracting workers from other states.
