Officials recovered the body of a 65-year-old Tomball man who drowned in Lake Conroe Saturday.
Dive teams from the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable's Office, the North Montgomery County Fire and Conroe Fire Departments were called in to assist in the search.
The man was enjoying the lakefront with family when at around 7:45 he went into the water without a lifevest, trying to help catch a friend's unmoored pontoon boat.
A man in a kayak attempted a rescue as bystanders threw life jackets in the area he was struggling.
The body was recovered at around 10:30.
It was the first drowning on Lake Conroe this year.
