FBI launches #StopSextortion national campaign

The FBI has seen a significant increase in grooming and sextortion activity against children who use the internet.

The FBI has launched the #StopSextortion national campaign in an effort to warn parents, educators, caregivers, and children about the dangers of online activity that may lead to the solicitation and enticement of a minor to engage in sexual acts.

Victims are typically between the ages 10 to 17, but any child can become a victim. Sextortion occurs when an adult, through threat or manipulation, coerces a minor into producing a sexually explicit image and/or video and sending it over the Internet. These predators prey on children and use tactics to “groom” children to engage in inappropriate behavior.

There are numerous sextortion informational resources here.
