It's not just Astros fans chanting "we're number one!" Houston leads the list for job growth for July in the twelve largest metropolitan areas.
Cheryl Abbot is an economist for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in Dallas. She says Houston is doing well in just about every employment category.
"With the exception of information; it was the only one that lost some jobs. But the two that really pumped the job growth in this month would be professional and business services and construction."
Abbot says Texas did really well in job growth for July. Houston's annual job growth rate was 3.4% and Dallas-Fort Worth was second at 3.3%.
Abbot says Houston's annual job growth rate is more than double the national average.
"For the last nine months you've actually been above the U.S. average and this particular month you came in at number one among the 12 largest areas in the country."
Abbot says the Bureau doesn't forecast, but there's no obvious reason why the trend shouldn't continue through the end of this year and into 2019.
