American tv watchers are quite familiar with the Bionic Man….Lee Majors living in Houston now btw. But there’s a new global thing afoot. Robo-roo. It’s a bionic kangaroo created by European engineers. Not for tv or even toy stores, Robo-roo is designed to demonstrate how energy from movement can be recovered more effectively.
Just like a real ‘roo, the bionic one reuses energy from jump to jump so it can cover large distances at a considerable speed without tiring too quickly. Something about an elastic spring, that partially charges the legs on landing. This is applied electrical/electronic engineering and we’re told will improve automation systems in manufacturing.
Shame. At 3 feet and 15 pounds and controlled by hand gestures, Robo-roo could be a fun running mate.
