It’s happening so fast, it’s hard to make sense of it.

Texas job growth is its largest in nearly two decades.  Unemployment in the Lone Star state has dropped to 5.1 percent.  In May alone we added 56,000 jobs, a pace that we are seeing across all 11 major industries in Texas.

In Houston, you may not physically see the jobs, but you certainly see the workers who are about and moving here in the traffic on the street, the crowding in some schools, the birth of more shopping centers, apartment buildings and houses.

Just in time, researchers at Rice University are going to try to make sense of it all.  They will map how our urban landscape and population is changing and more important its effect.

Thanks to Houston Endowment for the grant that will help us understand and deal with the change we’re seeing every day.
