It is the Kentucky Derby, but also an American culture and sport institution. And you don’t have to be at Churchill Downs to feel a part of it. Besides broadcast coverage of the big race, there are simulcasts at horse tracks across the country. In Houston, that means the Sam Houston Race Park, which is calling on track goers to don their derby hats…take in the live racing at the track, place your bets and watch the Run for the Roses in real time on the big screens.
How great it could be if 50-to- one odds would pay out on “Commanding Curve”…. the horse is part-owned by businessman Mike Lee of Pearland. Sweet. Not just the dollars, but to actually beat the odds-on favorite California Chrome. Know what I’m sayin’?
