Would You Buy Your Four Year Old a Phone?

One company is marketing a cell phone the parents of children 4-to-8 years of age. The device fits on the wrist and includes GPS, so mom or dad can track the little one. Family Therapist Mary Jo Rapini says this is for parents who feel guilty for working and not spending enough time with their kids.

“I just think this is crazy,” Rapini says. “I think it's really marketing for parents who feel guilty, that they're not giving enough.”

The phone only has two buttons -- one of them a big, red panic button. But, what happens when Junior figures out that pushing that button gets mom's attention immediately?

“I think parents would be better off if they took one afternoon, or a couple hours a week,” she says, “and actually spent time with their child.”

The phone fits on a child’s wrist and costs about $200.
