The Year without a New Years Eve

The City of Houston announced the New Year’s Eve celebration has been cancelled due to a lack of funding.

The city has been part of the family-friendly event for the past two years.  Thousands of people have enjoyed the concerts, food, and fireworks.

Susan Christian from the Mayor's Special Projects office tells our TV partner Local-2 it’s an expensive event to put on. “It takes about $500,000 to make it happen and while we do have several major sponsors that are just about ready to sign on to this event, they just aren't ready to write a check this year.”

Christian says there is plenty of support from private entities, but they ran out of time this year.  There are hopes that Houston can ring in 2015 at Discovery Green Park.
