Sheriff Adrian Garcia was looking at two members of the Texas congressional delegation when he said it’s up to the House of Representatives now. Garcia calls the current laws antiquated and says some parameters need to be defined.
The Harris County Sheriff says some witnesses and crime victims fail to report crimes right now. “We have just too many people who don’t report crime,” Garcia says. “They worry about how law enforcement might consider their status.”
Garcia rejects the idea Harris County might be a “safe haven” for undocumented immigrants.
“Here, I don’t care who you are, where you come, from what your status is,” he says, “(If) you decide to violate the law, you're gonna find yourself in the county jail.”
