The so-called "Lighting the Way" report shows the use of solar increased 120-fold in the last 10 years in the U.S.  Texas has much potential for increased production.

Luke Metzger is director of Environment Texas.  He says lower prices for solar technology aren’t the only benefits of the new approach.

“Not just for clean energy, less pollution for the state, but also for more jobs,” Metzger says.  “Already, there are more than four thousand Texans working in the solar industry.”

Solar energy has accounted for almost three-fourths of all new electric generation capacity in the U.S.  The price of installed solar systems has fallen 60 percent in the last two years.

“Solar increased 45 percent,” he says, “making Texas ranked ninth in the country for solar installed in 2013.”
