Expect more fireworks when Texas lawmakers reconvene for yet another special session next Monday. GOP blogger Bryan Preston of Pajamas Media says history has shown pro-choice supporters won't back down on new abortion restrictions being pushed by Lt. Governor David Dewhurst.
“I think the same tactics probably will be tried again in Austin, but I don't think they'll succeed this time because hopefully the Senate's leadership is ready for them and ready to stop them,” Preston tells KTRH News.
The proposed bill would ban abortions after 20 weeks, giving Texas the toughest abortion laws in the country.
Governor Rick Perry ordered a second special session after the first ended late Tuesday night with outbursts following a day-long Democratic filibuster.
“I think he's doing the right thing here, bringing them back to session, getting this bill done so that mob rule doesn't become a standard in the state of Texas,” says Preston.
Transportation funding and new sentencing guidelines for a 17-year-old convicted of capital murder also were left unresolved.
