The Rice Owls are conference champions for the first time in 56 years. They beat Marshall 41-24 to win the Conference USA Title, their first outright championship since 1957.
Sophomore running back Luke Turner was the game MVP, after the former high school quarterback threw two touchdown passes (on two attempts) and rushed for 49 yards.
The win earns the Owls an automatic berth in the Autozone Liberty Bowl, which will be played on New Year’s Eve in Memphis, Tennessee. A win in the bowl game would give Rice its first 11-victory season in school history.
The rest of the invitations for the college bowl season will be announced later tonight.
