A Stafford police officer was shot twice – once in the chest, once in the face – during routine traffic stop Saturday morning.
Officer Ann Marie Carrizales returned fire, blowing out the back window of the getaway car as three suspects sped off, and chased the men all the way from Stafford to Houston.
One of the suspects was captured, while two others are still on the loose. Sergio Francisco Rodriquez, the alleged gunman, is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer. One of the escapees was identified as 28-year old Fredy Henriquez – a known gang member who is in the country illegally.
Officer Carrizales was treated at the hospital and released. Officials say her bullet-proof vest saved her life. She is recovering at home with her family.
Carrizales is a former United States Marine, an amateur boxer, and was named Stafford Police Officer of the Year.
