Even though pro-life candidates had a lot of success in the Texas primaries earlier this month, Planned Parenthood has decided to ramp up their efforts in an attempt to make things a bit closer in November’s general election..

They’ve started a new political action fund to influence the Texas Governor's race. Yvonne Gutierrez of Planned Parenthood Texas Votes told KTRH they will have success.

“Planned Parenthood is a very trusted brand for women, and women are going to decide this election in Texas,” Gutierrez said. “People are listening and we have the energy to keep the momentum going.”

But Emily Horne of Texas Right to Life disagrees.

“I just don’t think the votes are there to back it up, but we’ll see how it turns out in the fall,” Horne explained. “Texas is a red state.”

Critics say Planned Parenthood is responding to how politically active Texas Right to Life has become. But Gutierrez says that's not true.

“Regardless of what Right to Life is going to do it is incumbent upon us to inform and activate women,” Gutierrez stated.

Planned Parenthood is hoping to build on the success they had in Virginia's Governor's race. But Horne says comparing Virginia to Texas is like comparing apples to oranges.

“Virginia had some room for going either way, but Texas is a very red state,” Horne said.
