Planes and passengers were delayed as they tried to approach terminal B at Bush Intercontinental Airport after a shooting caused a lockdown.
HPD spokesman Kese Smith says a man entered the main doors of terminal B around 1:35pm Thursday and fired a weapon twice into the ceiling.
An air marshal heard the the shots and approached the suspect. The marshal ordered the man to drop his weapon, at that point the man turned on the marshal, that is when two things happened. The marshal fired at the man and the man turned his gun on himself.
HPD Captain Dwayne Ready says the man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police are awaiting the autopsy to determine the cause of death.
No passengers or airport staff were hurt in the shooting and planes on the ground that were supposed to go to terminal B were delayed on the tarmac while investigators examined the scene.
Passengers were diverted to other terminals for ticket purchasing and TSA security screening.
