Astronaut Steven R. Nagal passed away late last week after a long illness at the age of 67.
Nagal was an Air Force pilot who joined NASA as an astronaut in 1979. Nagel served four missions in space between 1985 and 1993, and was mission commander on his final two.
In all, he logged 723 hours in space. He later spend 16 years as the deputy director in the reliability and quality assurance office at Johnson Space Center, until he retired from NASA in 20-11.
