The fire is out, but the Houston contingent is going to help with the memorials and funerals for 19 fallen firefighters.  An honor guard and a pipe and drum corps will participate in Tuesday morning’s memorial.

Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association President Jeff Caynon says, “We had a request from the International Association of Fire Fighters for some assistance from our fire department’s funeral coordinator and the union's line of duty death coordinator.”

He says Houston is honor-bound to help, pointing out the support offered here when four local firefighters were lost in the May 31st fire at the Southwest Inn.

We know how they feel.

“It is unfortunate that ever since I've been president, we've had seven line of duty deaths in the last 6 years … and they’re tough,” Caynon says, “but we really do have a responsibility to one another, and it's part of our community of firefighters to help each other out.”
