A central Texas police officer loses his job, after fatally shooting a 93-year old woman.  The Hearne City Council voted unanimously to fire officer Stephen Stem.

A family member called police Tuesday, saying they had been threatened with a gun by Pearlie Golden.  The investigation into what happened next is still underway, but Golden engaged police and she was shot and killed.

The shooting sparked outrage in Hearne and beyond with many questioning the officer's use of force. Council members held an emergency meeting Saturday afternoon to vote on Stem's future with the department.  The issue was discussed behind closed doors with both the mayor and the city attorney.  After deliberating for less than a half hour, council voted.

Tuesday’s incident was Stem’s second fatal shooting involving a suspect.   He was cleared of wrongdoing in the 2012 event.
