Residents in a Clear Lake neighborhood got a shock as they realized they had a new, reptile resident.

Homeowners Friday afternoon say they saw a 9-foot alligator just crawling around near a home.  Debra Bailey told our TV partner Local 2, she saw the gator in her driveway before Texas Parks and Wildlife officials arrived to deal with the creature.

Normally officials say when a gator is found they relocate it but officers said because the creature was in a residential area they shot and killed it.

It is mating season for alligators so they are out and about, anyone who spots an alligator near a residential area is advised to call the Texas Parks and Wildlife department.
