A compilation of several studies suggests diet sodas don’t really help you lose weight.  In some cases, they may make it tougher.

Carol Wolin-Riklin is a clinical dietician at U-T Health Sciences Center-Houston.  She says it’s important to keep track of what we are putting in our bodies.

“We just need to be aware of what we are eating and drinking,” she says, “and, too much of any one thing is never healthy.”

Wolin-Riklin we can be fooled.  “Sometimes you get into kind of like a quagmire where you feel like, oh, I was so good, I had a diet soda, so I didn't use up my calories there.  I'm gonna have a piece of cake.”

She says nothing you eat or drink in large amounts will be good for you.
