A seven-year old boy in northwest Harris County is in grave condition, after the pony he was riding was hit by a vehicle.

Deputies say the child was among a group of riders near Spears and Walter Road.  They were riding after dark – an unusual occurrence according to neighbors – and the boy was thrown from his horse.

According to investigators, the driver of the SUV drove to her home about a mile away and called 9-1-1.  Hit-and-run charges are not expected to be filed, because the woman reported the incident soon after it occurred.

The child was first taken to Houston Northwest Medical Center and then flown by LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital.  A spokesman from the Harris County Sheriff’s office says the boy is not expected to survive his injuries.
