An elderly woman died early this morning in a two-alarm apartment fire on Houston’s west side near Memorial.
Houston Fire Department crews arrived at the scene at around 2:30a.m. and found the two story complex engulfed in flames. The blaze was so intense that at one point, firefighters had to enter the residence through a neighbor’s wall.
The 71 year old woman was found dead while still sitting at the dining room table.
Neighbor John McMillian spoke with our TV Partner Local 2 and described the early morning chaos, “I came downstairs and this place was an inferno.”
Despite neighbor’s claims of the woman’s cigarette smoking, fire investigators are still searching for the cause of the blaze and have not ruled out arson.
